You are Bidding for1942 Australian Half Penny
The 1942 Melbourne mint half penny is one of the key dates in the George VI series and certainly one of the toughest to acquire in mint state. Its rarity derives from its initially low mintage of 720,000, one of the lowest mintages in the series. Acquiring the coin in mint state can be quite a challenge but the coin can still be acquired at reasonable expense if mint brilliance is not required. Acquiring the coin with any significant amount of red mint brilliance is near impossible and will heavily influence the price. The 1942 Melbourne mint half penny can be differentiated from the more common Bombay (learn more) and Perth mint (learn more) issues by the absence of the dot mintmark after the Y of PENNY on the reverse.
